CAAS (Croatian Association for American Studies) announces a Call for Papers for its 9th annual workshop, Tracing Populism in the U.S. and Comparative Perspective. The 2021 workshop will be hosted by the University of Zadar and will take place in Zadar, Croatia, on September 25, 2021. This year’s key-note speaker is Liam Kennedy (University College Dublin). The deadline for submission of abstracts is June 1, 2021.

Here’s another update about recent publications by HUAmS members. As a co-author, Antonija Pavić published the article “The Beautiful and Dangerous: A New Depiction of Heroines in North American Television Drama Series” (available at Medijske studije journal. Sanja Nikčević published a book on war themes in Croatian, Bosnian and Anglo-American drama (Kako prikazati ljudske rane na sceni. Ratne teme u hrvatskoj, bosanskoj i angloameričkoj drami, Alfa, Zagreb, 2016). Tatjana Jukić’s article “Stanley Cavell, Classical Hollywood and the Constitution of the Ordinary (With Notes on Billy Wilder)” can be found in the April 2016 issue of AM. Journal of Art and Media Studies. Finally, Ismet Bujupaj published “Parents and Daughters in Two Novels by Arab American Authors: ‘Khalas, Let Her Go’“ in Anafora, the literary journal published at the University of Osijek.

This year’s American Studies Workshop in Zagreb proposes as its central concern the question of the meaning of the past, understood as a living history, and its interaction with the practice of American Studies. The workshop will take place at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences on May 14, 2016. The deadline for proposals is March 15, 2016.
